About Manu o Lōkahi Stroke Foundation
Mission
We support stroke survivors and their families by providing the resources they need to navigate recovery with confidence and dignity.
Our focus is on improving access to essential tools such as medical equipment, education, and community support that make day to day recovery more manageable.
As a Hawaiʻi based nonprofit grounded in the values of aloha, we are committed to creating care that is accessible, compassionate, and centered around the real needs of families.
Our Story
Manu o Lōkahi Stroke Foundation started with my grandma.
She has always been the heart of our family, the one who keeps everyone connected. We call her “Grandma Bird,” a nickname that came from when she used to read us Are You My Mother? as kids. Over time, it just stuck and fits her perfectly. Growing up in Hawaiʻi, she raised us with the values of aloha and made it a priority that our family stayed close. She is the reason our family feels like a unit. When I was choosing a name for this foundation, I kept coming back to her. Manu o Lōkahi means “bird of unity,” and that is exactly who she is to us.
When she had a stroke, everything changed. What we thought would be temporary became a long term shift in her life and independence. Even with medical knowledge in our family, the process was overwhelming. We struggled to figure out how to access basic things like equipment and home support, with no clear starting point.
That experience is what led me to create Manu o Lōkahi Stroke Foundation, a Hawaiʻi based nonprofit rooted in aloha, supporting families through every stage of stroke recovery.
